Trekking Encircle of Mt. Manaslu Trek
Located in Gorkha district, the Manaslu trekking region owes its name to Mt. Manaslu (8163m), the eighth highest peak in the world. On Manaslu trekking you will be able to completely encircle the Manaslu peak and experience one of the most remote Himalayan valleys.
This is a highly adventurous trek with options for both camping and tea house trekking. The most thrilling and exciting part of Manaslu trekking comes while crossing Larkya La pass at an altitude of 5160m. The spectacular panorama of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Sringi, Simrang, Hiunchuli, Larkya peak, Peak 29, Himal Chuli and KangGuru are visible from the pass and at many points along the trail. The view of pristine Larkya Glacier from Larkya base camp (4460m) is mesmerizing.
The trails are mostly rocky and rugged and follow Budi Gandaki and Marshyangi Rivers, whilst passing through scenic villages, terraced fields, wooded forests, high ridges, streams, waterfalls, hot water spring and glaciers. A variety of ethnic communities live in this region from Gurung and Sherpas to Tibetans who all follow Buddhist philosophy. The ethnic Tibetan settlers of Samagaon and Samdo are unique whose culture and lifestyles are heavily influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. Visit to ancient Ribung Gompa in Lho village, Pungyen Gompa in Samagaon, Mu and Rachen gompas in Chekempar and Shringi Gompa in Bihi.
In terms of biodiversity Manaslu region is rich and varied with bamboo and rhododendron forests in lower elevation and birch and juniper vegetation above 3000m. In fact the trekking trail covers Manaslu Conservation Area which is home to many rare wild animals including Snow Leopard, Lophophorus, Musk Deer, Himalayan Thar and Himalayan Griffin. Manaslu Conservation Area project focuses on the promotion of eco-tourism in the region with active involvement and participation of local community. Special permits are required for trekkers before entering this region.
Manaslu trekking lasts from anywhere between 15 to 20 days depending upon your fitness and stamina. Basic lodges with organic food are available along the trek however you can also do this trek on camping style requiring guides, porters and cooks. Electricity is available in most villages but wifi facility is not available in all the places.
